Anne-Lyse Badou-James (b 1983) in Abidjan, capital of the Ivory Coast. She was barely a month old when her family moved to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where she lived for nine and a half years. Thereafter, Anne-Lyse came back to the Ivory Coast where she lived for two years before going to Burkina Faso. She arrived in the United States in December of 1997. Ms. Badou-James graduated from the French International School in June of 2000. She was enrolled in the Economics and Social Sciences program and specialized in Political Sciences. Her interest in business came from both her desire to work in an international organization some day and the desire to somehow contribute to the growth of third world countries. She started to attend Montgomery College in September of 2000 and declared International Business her major. Anne-Lyse intends to double major in International business with a concentration in Finance and International Relations after graduation from the Macklin Business Institute. She has interned at Salomon Smith Barney and her ultimate hope for the future is to attend Georgetown University and pursue a MBA.

Timothy Joel Carter (b 1982) is a sophomore at Montgomery College. He has spent most of his life in Arkansas and Massachusetts. Tim went to Gaithersburg High school where he participated in the Academy of Finance program. At Gaithersburg High School he became the head teller for the school branch of Montgomery County Teachers Federal Credit Union. He has worked part time as a lifeguard manager for two Marriott properties. Mr. Carter is also a volunteer for the American Diabetes Association. When he has free time he loves to travel. He has been to Cuba and Mexico and is planning an trip to Spain. Tim plans to transfer to the University of Maryland and major in finance or marketing. He was very happy and excited to be selected as a student in the Macklin Business Institute. Tim Carter has participated in an internship with Potomac Valley Bank and looks forward to the challenges that await him.

Hoang Duong (b 1978) lived his first three years in Ho-Chi-Minh-City, Vietnam. Shortly after his third birthday, his mother and him immigrated to Stuttgart, Germany, where his father had been living for two years. He graduated from a German high school in June 1998. After his graduation, he fulfilled his civil service obligation to the German government for 13 months at a kindergarten for disabled children as a classroom assistant in Stuttgart. He began his study as a Business Administration major at Montgomery College in the fall of 1999. His goal is to earn a Master’s degree in Business Administration, preferably from the Robert Smith Business School at the University of Maryland, College Park. Being an international student at MC, he helped to organize the International Multicultural Student Organization (IMSO) at the Takoma Campus, in which he has been actively involved as the treasurer from October 1999 – September 2001. Since October 2001, he is holding the office of the president. Also, as a young man who looks for challenges, he took the position of a student assistant in the Office of Student Life at the Takoma Park Campus, where he was given the task to revitalize the Office of Volunteerism and Service Learning. He managed to re-energize this office successfully and received an award for his work. He still coordinates the office. He is very interested in pursuing a career in international business, management and tax consulting, or corporate finance. However, his long-term goal is to own his business. In addition to his education in business, he has been interning at Ernst & Young LLP in Washington D.C. In his leisure time, Hoang enjoys traveling, playing tennis, listening to music, and going out with friends.

Roman Drews (b 1980) in Poland, moved to U.S. and began first grade with no English language ability. He mastered school through great struggle to keep up and at age 9 was moved to Montreal where he had to then learn French to be schooled where no English was permitted. He returned to the U.S. and graduated from Magruder High School. Roman has interned in patent law and intellectual property firms. High school varsity wrestling, swimming, lacrosse and French Club have been his interests. His goal is to transfer to the business school at the University of Maryland and earn a four year degree. He has been interning recently at Aronson & Co. a regional CPA firm in Rockville, Md.

Doreen Faller (b 1980) was born in Plauen, Germany. At Montgomery College, Doreen is enrolled at the Business Honors Program of the Macklin Business Institute, where she has been awarded a scholarship. In the last two semesters, she has been placed on the Dean’s List for recognition of academic achievement. She is also a member of the Phi Theta Kappa, where she participates in extracurricular activities. Doreen is currently pursuing her studies in Business Administration. Along with her studies, she is interning at Paradigm Companies to apply her skills and knowledge learned in class and to gain real business experience. After completing the Business Honors Program at Montgomery College, Doreen plans to transfer to either the University of Maryland or NYU where she will pursue a double major in Decision and Information Technology and Finance. Her long-term goals are to gain three years of work experience in her field of studies and to obtain her Masters of Business Administration. Regine Gnago b.1982 is a sophomore who is part of the Macklin Business Institute Honors Program at Montgomery College. Regine has four sisters and her mom is single parent. They all work part-time to support family. Her mother is Algerian born, schooled in France at the Sorbonne as a Phd. in Geography. Her father is from Ivory Coast where Regine was raised and spoke French through 8th grade. She also speaks some Spanish had spent most of her life in Ivory Coast. Regine has lived in the United States for about five years. She graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in June 2000 with a certificate of merit. Throughout high school she obtained many academic awards such as the 1998 and 1999 W.B Dubois academic excellence award. She also made the Richard Montgomery honor roll during her freshman and senior years. Regine plans to transfer to the University of Maryland at College Park as finance major and wishes to become a CFO, then open her own investment firm. She works part-time at Chevy Chase Bank, as she has all throughout high school.

Guy Hammer (b 1978) graduated with honors from Walt Whitman HS in 1997. He then attended St. Mary’s College of Maryland and the University of Maryland before joining the Macklin Business Institute in 2001. When Guy completes the Macklin Program this spring, he either plans to transfer back to the University of Maryland or to the University of Victoria in British Columbia and graduate with a degree in entrepreneurial business. Guy is a D.C. native, but spent many years living around the world including Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, and Switzerland. He loves the great outdoors and sports of all kinds, especially skiing, golf, and rugby. “My mission is to start my own business, make lots of money, retire, and coach high school football.” His interning has included working here at MC doing business development for the literary magazine The Potomac Review a publication of the college Humanities Institute.

Maria Kostaris (b 1981) in the United States but moved to Greece when she was ten years old and lived there for seven years. She attended Greek schools until her sophomore year in high school and decided to move back to the United States without her parents to finish high school and go to college. Maria graduated from Thomas S. Wootton High School with honors. She is currently a student at Montgomery College and is enrolled in the Montgomery Scholars Program as well as the Macklin Business Institute. During the summer of 2001, Maria had the honor to attend Cambridge University in England for the International Summer Program. Apart from being in the honors programs, she is also involved in clubs at Montgomery College. Maria is the treasurer and secretary of the Montgomery Ambassadors, she does a lot of community service to help raise money for scholarships, and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, which is the International Honor Society of the two-year colleges. After graduating from the Macklin Business Institute, she intends to transfer to the University of Maryland, College Park, and pursue a major in Finance or in Accounting. Maria has been doing accounting at her internship a DAI, inc. in Bethesda.

Jennifer Lynn Krintz (b 1982) and raised in the great state of Maryland. She graduated from the highly-acclaimed Seneca Valley High School in Germantown, MD. Jennifer is a Music Business major who hopes to be transferring to a university out of the area in the fall of 2002. Her ultimate goal is to become a country singer who doesn't have to rely on her parents for some "bling." She enjoys the arts, baseball, journalism, and languages. She hopes to learn and master Italian, write a top-selling book, record a platinum-selling album, travel the world, sing the National Anthem at a Superbowl, buy her dream truck, and eventually own the Orioles. In the meantime, she is a Macklin Business Honors student at Montgomery College and has interned in the marketing department of a regional CPA firm, Aronson & Co. in Rockville, Maryland.

Carolina Lasso (b 1981) in Bogota, Colombia and came to the United States in 1998. She graduated as valedictorian from John F. Kennedy High School and entered Montgomery College. Carolina is planning to transfer to a four-year university to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree on International Business and then a Master’s Degree on International Economics. Besides being a Macklin scholar she is vice-president of Phi Theta Kappa, a member of the MC Student Ambassadors, a Montgomery Scholar and has interned at the Hispanic Business Institute and will continue interning, next at Telemundo. In her spare time Carolina enjoys painting with oils, working out, dancing and learning other languages.

Patricia Lawrence (b 1964) is originally from North Carolina. She graduated from East Forsyth Senior High School in Kernersville, NC in 1983. Since that time she has pursued a college degree on a part-time basis until being accepted into the Macklin Business Institute. She moved to the Gaithersburg, Maryland area in 1989. She was married in 1993. Since then she has had 3 children, a girl (b. 1994) and two boys (b. 1995 and 1998). Patricia has been employed full-time at Westat, Inc. a statistical and survey research firm in Rockville, MD since 1989. Her current job responsibilities include managing the business proposals and financial reporting staff, reporting directly to the Vice President of Accounting and the President of the company. Patricia will earn an Associate’s degree in Business Administration in 2002. She then plans to transfer to the University of Maryland to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. After completing this degree Patricia plans to further her education by obtaining a Master’s degree in International Business and then a Juris Doctorate degree in Government Contract Law. Patricia currently holds a Master’s Certificate in Government Contracting from George Washington University. Patricia plans to use the knowledge gained in her academic and professional careers to further her government-contracting career into the area of contract management and administration. She eventually plans to assist small businesses with preparing “winning” government contract proposals and the setup and management of their awarded contracts. As a full-time student, full-time employee and full-time wife and mom she is proving her skills at time management and multi-tasking that serve her well now and in future endeavors.

Ashwinee Mahabir (b 1981) arrived in the U.S. in the winter of 1999, She graduated from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School in 2000. She is majoring in Business Administration at MC-Rockville Campus. After her AA degree in Business Administration, Ashwinee intends to transfer to a 4-year institution for further studies. She originally comes from an island called Mauritius, located in the Indian Ocean where she may return to continue her studies. Her interests and hobbies are gardening, cooking, and reading to name a few. Ashwinee has interned at BigDough.com in Bethesda Her main goal for right now is "to succeed..."

Levon Moosakhanian (b 1982) was born in Washington, DC and raised in Potomac, MD. He has a very interesting outlook on life, he is willing to overcome any obstacles to reach his goals at all costs. By the age of ten he had already traveled the entire US. He graduated from Winston Churchill High School with honors in the year 2000. He is currently studying Business Administrations at Montgomery College and is planning on transferring to Maryland University to get his bachelors degree. He was awarded the Board of Trustees Scholarship last year at MC. This year he has the Macklin Business Institute Scholarship. Levon plans on studying Merger and Acquisition Law after graduating from Maryland. Levon is very involved with cars and motorcycles. He plans to have one of the most well known car and motorcycle shops. Last summer he started his motorcycle business with a partner who is exceptionally educated in this field. Their small motorcycle shop is called "SPYCES" Sport Bike Sales and Customizing. Levon says that it'll be one of the most prominent and well known names in the industry for the future. With the help of the Macklin Business Institute he is learning entrepreneurship and how to properly craft a business plan which will help his business be successful that much faster.

Viraj Patel (b 1977) spent his pre-college years studying and living in London. After high school he decided to partake in the family business, which was operating Crystal’s, a ritzy wine bar in the heart of London. Viraj spent two years as manager of Crystal’s. This is where his love of business first began. However, Viraj pushed this love of business aside to pursue his other passion, science. He enrolled in Kingston University (London) where he started to earn a degree in pharmaceutical science. After completing his first year Viraj decided that science was not the road he wanted to take in life. At this major turning point Viraj decided to move to the United States and pursue a degree in business. Upon completion of his first semester at Montgomery College he was accepted to the Macklin Business Institute, as well as Phi Theta Kappa. Viraj one day aspires to obtain a Masters degree in Business and own a Fortune 500 company. Viraj truly believes that with hard work and perseverance anything is possible. (Rex)

Rainier Regner, (b 1982) an Aquarius, graduated class of 2000 from the prominent John F. Kennedy High School of Silver Spring, MD. He is sophomore at Montgomery College and Macklin Business Institute student. He plans to transfer to a prestigious four-year university and get his Bachelors in Finance/Entrepreneurship. He wants to have a career in investment banking or asset management. After a having a career in corporate America, he plans to start a company with the financial power of General Motors, the investment strategies of Berkshire Hathaway, and the fame of Bad Boy Records. He played for the MC tennis team during his freshmen and sophomore year, during which he won the regional tournament in singles and doubles. He plans to earn his first million by age 32 and be the next Warren Buffet. He plans on becoming the most powerful businessman in the Washington metropolitan area. In the meantime he has interned at Salomon Smith Barney.

Garrett Wozniak (b 1982) in Silver Spring, Maryland and has lived in Montgomery Village ever since. At Montgomery College, he has had the opportunity to be a part of the Montgomery Scholars Program and the Macklin Business Institute. This past summer, 2001, Garrett had the opportunity to study at Cambridge University in England. After graduating from Montgomery College, he plans on transferring into a great business program out west. This would allow him the chance to continue his education and be close to the film industry. His hopes are to one day be involved, somehow, in the making of a Hollywood film. Besides having a love for film and the arts, Garrett loves anything active. He greatly enjoys live music and being outdoors. Garrett has taken on the challenge of interning here at MC as business manager of the literary magazine The Potomac Review.
