  • Maryland needs teachers. It’s filling classrooms with laid-off federal workers.

    The Christian Science Monitor reports that Maryland is turning to former federal employees to help fill its teacher-shortage, offering fast-track licensure through an initiative supported by a $1 million grant program, spotlighting Montgomery College, whose Alternative Certification for Effective Teachers program was expanded to provide an accelerated pathway for displaced federal workers to transition into classroom roles.
