Montgomery College has launched Atletas Sin Barreras (Athletes Without Barriers), a limited-series podcast produced entirely in Spanish. Hosted by David Godoy—an Ecuadorian musician, Special Olympics Athlete Leader, and Montgomery College student—the series explores highlights examples of inclusion in the disability-rights movement through reflective conversations with thought leaders.
As the second Spanish-language podcast published by the College, Atletas Sin Barreras aligns with Montgomery County’s vibrant diversity, where over 20% of residents identify as Hispanic/Latino. The series reinforces Montgomery College’s mission of "transformative inclusion," meeting the growing demand for Spanish-dominant content that centers on Latino voices and leadership.
“This podcast is a living embodiment of the Montgomery College promise: an exceptional education that leads to extraordinary outcomes,” says award-winning podcast producer, Carolina Galeano. “By leaders who redefine what access and excellence mean, we are building a more inclusive future for our students, aspiring athletes, and our global community.”
A Host with a Mission
Host David Godoy brings a unique, first-hand perspective to the series. A graduate of MC’s Graduate Transition Program and a current member of the College’s jazz ensemble, Godoy is a fifth-generation musician and a multi-sport Special Olympics athlete. His personal journey of thriving within institutions that prioritize accessibility serves as the heartbeat of the show.
“Through these conversations, I want to inspire Spanish-speaking listeners to engage with the people and institutions that have helped me succeed,” says Godoy. “We aren't just asking for a seat at the table; we are building a new table together.”
