The Monday Minute with Dr. Williams

Monday Minute

October 27, 2025

As we approach the end of October, our community continues to create meaningful opportunities for learning, discovery, and connection. Each day, your work helps students reach their goals, strengthens our communities, and ensures Montgomery College remains a place where everyone belongs and can thrive.

Celebrate Humanities Days At Montgomery College

The Global Humanities Institute and the Paul Peck Humanities Institute are hosting the 13th annual Humanities Daysnew window this week, celebrating The Humanities: Honoring Connections and Belonging Here and Beyond. The events highlight how human connection fosters belonging across disciplines, cultures, and communities through poetry readings, student presentations, and a keynote by acclaimed poet Denice Frohman. Her work explores identity, culture, and social change—reminding us of the importance of compassion and the shared bonds that unite us.

Backpacks On The Go: Meet The Raptors Behind The Wins

In this week’s Backpacks on the Gonew window, I had the chance to talk with two remarkable student athletes, Ruby Lancaster and Nicolas Granadino, about what drives their success on and off the field. Our conversation reminded me that, at Montgomery College, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our student athletes embody discipline, teamwork, and perseverance—supported by a network of counselors, academic coaches, and tutors who help them reach their full potential. The men’s and women’s soccer teams exemplify this balance of academic and athletic excellence, reflecting the College’s commitment to fostering growth, leadership, and integrity in every aspect of the student experience.

Transfer Pathways And Scholarships Grow

A new transfer agreement with Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) is opening doors for Montgomery College students to pursue advanced studies in high-demand fields. Alumna Denisia Jocktane Akagah recently began her biomedical engineering degree at RIT through this pathway. The agreement guarantees admission for MC graduates who complete an associate degree with at least a 3.0 GPA and meet RIT’s requirements. Students also benefit from waived application fees, seamless credit transfer, and dedicated advising. In addition, all MC graduates transferring to RIT are automatically considered for the Ken Becker/Montgomery College and Ashley Cheng/Montgomery College endowed scholarship.
